City Corporation elections 2015: PM’s support not everything to win city polls: Annisul Huq

Mayor candidate Annisul Huq said that voters’ support was needed to win city polls as mere Prime Minister’s support would not ensure victory. The Awami League-backed candidate made the observation while addressing a electioneering rally at Korail Basti in the capital on Thursday. Earlier, he exchanged views with Imams of Mosques of Haji camp area in the capital. Anisul Huq was contesting as mayoral position from Dhaka north city corporation of which election is scheduled to be held on April 28. During launching election campaign at Korail Basti, Anisul Huq said, “I would not evict people of Korail Basti untill I rehabilitate them”. “I have grown up through hardships. I came off a middle class family. I have worked at different organisations but I have no bad reputation. Trust me. It is a local election. And the government is not changed through such election,” he stated convincing the voters.
Anisul also said, “I cannot become mayor if the Prime Minister wishes. She has extended her support for may candidature. But I need your votes to become mayor”.
“If I win, I would return to you. Let me scope to work for five years,” he made the request.
