Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali on Thursday said the cooperation between Bangladesh and India will further be strengthened in the areas of renewable energy, satellite, blue economy, maritime cooperation, peaceful use of nuclear energy when Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will visit New Delhi.
We are confident that when the daughter of Bangabandhu and our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina visits India next time, the cooperation will be further strengthened in all these areas, he said while addressing a reception hosted in a city hotel marking the 68th Indian Republic Day.
Minister Ali said the security cooperation together with collective fight against terrorism and violent extremism continues to play an important role in achieving peace, stability and security in the region and beyond.
The partnership between the two countries is mature, broad and strong.
In the past eight years, we have experienced remarkable progress in many areas, namely, security, connectivity, development cooperation, cultural exchange, power, trade and commerce, defence exchange and so on, he mentioned.
The Foreign Minister said, the two countries also share common commitment to advance regional and international cooperation including strengthening regional processes such as BIMSTEC, BBIN and BCIM.
Noting that Bangladesh and India are growing at a fast pace, Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Harsh Vardhan Shringla said with more cooperation, greater connectivity, sustainable practices and better infrastructure, the two countries can ensure a better future for the youth.
This young and thriving population can be the pivot of our growth if empowered through skills and education, the High Commissioner said. Both Bangladesh and India have a young and aspirational population, Shringla said adding that more than 65 percent of India’s population is below the age of 35 years, while more than 70 percent of Bangladesh’s population is below the age of 40.
The theme chosen for the evening was ‘Smart Cities’ which is the vision of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to renew and develop more than 100 cities across the country through sustainable, state of the art and modern technologies. The High Commissioner said connectivity and sub-regional cooperation is a high priority for the leadership of Bangladesh and India.
He mentioned that Bangladesh is an attractive destination for Indian investments in the energy and other sectors and many projects are underway. These initiatives represent the growing synergies between both our countries.

We have made progress in sub-regional cooperation under the BBIN Framework with cargo trial runs under the Motor Vehicles Agreement being completed, Shringla said. We are committed to easing movement of people across borders. In the last one year, we have taken a number of initiatives to ease access to Indian visa for Bangladesh nationals and the results are visible, he said.
In the year 2016, Bangladesh nationals were the largest tourist group to India. Our efforts to streamline, ease and simplify the visa system have received a positive response and we appreciate your feedback,Shringla said.
