Extend support to fight militancy

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday called upon the country’s people to extend their support to the government’s firm stance against terrorism and militancy. “We’ve a clear stance against terrorism and militancy, the whole nation will have to play a role in the fight against terrorism and militancy… we’ll have to protect Bangladesh from the menace of militancy and terrorism,” she said.
The Prime Minister said this while inaugurating the operational activities of the country’s third seaport at Payra in Patuakhali and a number of development projects, including the country’s first eight-lane highway from Jatrabari to Kanchpur through a videoconferencing from her official residence Ganobhaban.
She said, people will have to ensure a secure future for all, including children, keeping terrorism and militancy away from the country.
“We don’t want to see another heinous and hatred bloodshed like the one on  
August 15, 1975 in the country, everybody in the country will have a secure life and that’s our desire,” she said.
Recalling the heinous attack on August 15, 1975, the Prime Minister said the country’s progress had got stalled with Bangabandhu’s assassination.
The Prime Minister also said Bangabandhu is no more among the people of the country, but his ideology still prevails in their hearts. “We’ ll have to materialise the Father of the Nation’s ideology, The victory which was attained by the people of this country responding to the call of Bangabandhu was destroyed with his assassination,” she said.
Hasina said, the only aim of the killers was to keep the country’s people oppressed and hungry.
Briefly describing her government’s various development programmes, the Prime Minister said the aim of this government is to fulfill the dream of the Father of the Nation.
She said Bangabandhu throughout his life worked for bringing smile to the faces of his people. “Now this responsibility has been bestowed upon us and we’re making our relentless efforts to accomplish the task,” she said.
Hasina said, people have already started getting the benefits of various short-, medium- and long-term projects. “The whole country will come under hundred percent electricity coverage by 2021,” she said.
The Prime Minister also distributed laptops and books among the winners of essay writing and cultural competitions.
