PM to open 3 new power plants today

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate three power plants at Ashuganj having generation capacity 476MW.
She will inaugurate the plants through video conferencing from Ganabhaban today (Thursday).
The power plants are now generating 390 MW electricity combinedly, Prime Minister (PM) will open its inclusion in national grid officially. The plants will generate 476MW electricity after installation of combined cycle there.
Earlier on July 20, 2013, the PM, had inaugurated the construction of these three plants- Ashuganj 225-MW Combined Cycle Power Plant, 200-MW Modular Power Plant and 51-MW private-run Midland Power Plant.
Besides, the PM also inaugurated other two such plants (450-MW Combined Cycle Power Plant (South) and 450-MW Combined Cycle Power Plant, north) in the same area which are till in construction level.
 “Ashuganj is ranked the top as single region in generating power of more than 1200 MW. So, Ashuganj is known as one of the largest hub of the electricity. There is a gas field near to Ashuganj and also available an easy waterway and easy access to national grid has given advantage of Ashuganj to become power hub,” said AMM Sazzadur Rahman, Managing Director of the Ashuganj Power Station.
The government has planned to modernize the technologies of the over 30 years old power plants of the power hub, he said.
