UNB, Dhaka :Criticising a section of human rights organisations of the country for their silence when BNP-Jamaat alliance activists were killing people through arson attacks, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday questioned their intention saying they are ‘extreme opportunists’.”So many people were burned alive. Was not that the violation of the human rights? None of these human rights organisations uttered a single word, when Khaleda Zia was killing people through arson attacks. How could they keep mum at that time?” she questioned.Sheikh Hasina, also the Awami League chief, was delivering her introductory speech at the Advisory Council meeting of the ruling party at her official residence Ganabhaban.Citing the examples of some previous incidents like the meeting of Hefajat-e-Islam, she said some human rights organisations at that time gave false numbers of casualties and created a hue and cry to draw international attention.”But when the BNP-Jamaat alliance was killing people in the name of a movement they are silent at that time, too… they didn’t have anything to say, even the ink of their pen ran out. These organisations are also responsible for these killings, there is nothing about human rights for them, they are just extreme opportunists, they have some agenda in their minds,” she said.Hasina reiterated her government’s firm stance against militancy, burning people and violation of human rights, and said her government will take steps whatever needed to deal with these evil elements. “We have taken stern actions and will take the same in the future,” she added. The Prime Minister said the BNP-Jamaat alliance got encouraged to do these evil activities as the government did not take stern action against them for their destructive activities during the last general election.”After the election we got engaged in the development of the country deeply, that’s why we did not take any action against them, that was a wrong decision, we won’t make the same mistake this time,” she warned. She mentioned that actions will be taken against each person engaged in killing people so that no one in the future dares to commit such destructive activities against the mass people.”We won’t allow anyone to kill them through arson attacks, play with the fate of people and destroy the property of the state… this drive against the culprits will continue till the capture of the last criminal,” she asserted.Talking about the intention of BNP leader Khaleda Zia, the Prime Minister said her intention is clear and that is to destroy the image of the country.”We must take actions so that no one in the future can destroy the image of the country,” she added. The AL chief also said that the government will surely hunt down the arsonists, order givers and financiers to ensure their proper punishment. She also posed a question to BNP leader Khaleda Zia what she actually achieved by such destructive activities in the name of movement against the government.”You had to go to court to surrender and seek bail, we returned to your home with the agony of failure,” Hasia said.Hasina also said Khaleda Zia got a good lesson that the people of the country will never be with a failed person.
