UNB, Dhaka :
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday called for united efforts at making the country economically self-reliant in fulfilling the dream of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
She made the appeal while delivering her speech at a seminar titled ‘Speech of March 7: The best speech of Liberation in the history of the world’.
Father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Memorial Trust organised the programme at Bangladesh Krishibid Institution auditorium.
Vice-Chancellor of Premier University Prof Anupam Sen delivered the keynote paper. Writer Selina Hossain and director of Bangabandhu Institute of Liberation War and Bangladesh Studies of Bangabandhu Science and Technology University Shahidul Islam discussed on the paper.
Member secretary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Memorial Trust Sheikh Hafizur Rahman delivered the welcome speech.
Sheikh Hasina said that, the economic emancipation of the country will fulfill the dream of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu as mentioned in his historic March 7 speech in 1971.
“We have to go forward, we have to attain the economic emancipation,” she said.
She said that, the country still has to attain the economic emancipation and the present government is working hard to this end.
“We could not attain the economic emancipation till now which is our main target,” she said.
Pointing out that the anti-liberation forces are still active in the country, she said that these bad elements will not succeed in implementing their evil design.
She also said that when the country was marching forward after the Liberation under the leadership of Bangabandhu the anti-Liberation forces struck and killed him along with most of his family members.
They did not even spare his 10-year-old son Russel fearing that the people of the country might stage an uprising again under his leadership.
She said that the killers of August 15 also slain the four leaders of the county on November 3 inside Dhaka Central Jail and later killed the sector commanders one by one.
She mentioned that those who seized power after August 15, 1975 did not believe in the spirit of the Liberation War. “They just used the name of Liberation War,” she added.
Hasina said that, Bangabandhu always thought about the economic self-reliance of the country and it was also reflected in his historic speech on March 7.
She said that, after the March 7 speech the country virtually became independent. “Everything was under his control, the whole country did what he said,” she added.
She mentioned that on the March 7 the fate of the country was determined and Bangabandhu did not mention East Pakistan in his speech for a single time.
“He mentioned Bangladesh, Bangalee, and never uttered the word East Pakistan. He made it clear that there will be no land named East Pakistan and it was the destiny of the movement of 23 years,” she said.
Recalling the days of March in 1971 she said that Bangabandhu took every step with deep consideration so that none could term the movement of the Liberation as the separatist movement.
“He gave the final call when the country came under attack on March 25 night,” she said.
Hasina requested all including the young generation to listen to the historic March 7 speech repeatedly to get inspiration to work for the development of the country.
“By attaining development we will be able to fulfill the dream of the father of the nation,” she said.
