PM opens project 20,000 MW power output from Bibiyana by 2021

Voicing her high hope to produce more than 20,000 megawatts of power by 2021, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday inaugurated the much-awaited Bibiyana Gas Field Extension Project and the newly constructed
Bibiyana-Dhanua Gas Distribution Transmission line. Hasina formally opened the projects through unveiling the plaques at Nabiganj Bibiyana Gas Field Area in the district.
American Oil Company Chevron completed the Bibiyana Gas Field Extension Project to improve the country’s overall gas production capacity.
Gas Transmission Company Limited (GTCL), a company of Petrobangla, implemented the Bibiyana-Dhanua Gas Pipeline project spending Tk 1709.77 crore aimed at supplying additional gas to the national grid produced from the Bibiyana Gas Field.
Under the project, a 137-km gas transmission line with a 36-inch diameter has been set up over Habiganj, Kishoreganj, Mymensingh and Gazipur districts, including a 67-km Haor area in Habiganj and Kishoreganj districts. Petrobangla, GTCL and six other companies of Petrobangla beard the total spending.
Initially, around 300 million cubic feet of gas will be supplied through this pipeline a day while the capacity would be gradually raised to maximum 640 million cubic feet every day.
Besides, the department of Energy and Mineral Resources, Petrobangla and GTCL completed the 137-km distribution line through a 67-km long remote and haor areas of Habiganj and Kishorganj as well as Mymensingh and Gazipur districts.
