UNB, Dhaka :
BNP on Wednesday alleged that the Prime Minister has gone to Sweden on a ‘pleasure trip’ at a time when hillslides played havoc with people’s lives in four districts.
“The Prime Minister had also visited Austria when cyclone Mora hit the country. Heads of government usually stand by victims cancelling their foreign trips when any natural disaster affects their countries,” said BNP
senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
Speaking at a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office, he further said, “It’s the tradition of Awami League to abandon people when they’re in danger as they did it in 1971. The current Prime Minister also did the same thing after the 1/11 changeover.”
At least at 149 people, including army personnel and children, were killed in separate incidents of hillslides triggered by heavy rains in Bandarban, Chittagong, Rangamati and Cox’s Bazar districts on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina left here at 12:10pm on Tuesday for London en route to Stockholm on a three-day bilateral visit to Sweden at the invitation of her Swedish counterpart Stefan Lofven.
