Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Ekushey Padak winning eminent folk singer and veteran artist of the Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra Fakir Alamgir.
In a message of condolence on Friday night, she said, “His contribution to the country’s music arena, particularly in making the Ganasangeet ganosageet popular, one kind of folk songs, will be remembered.”
The Prime Minister prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
Fakir Alamgir, who was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the capital’s United Hospital few days back, passed away on Friday night.
He was, earlier, tested positive for Covid-19.
