PM heads 102-member body for Bangabandhu’s birth centenary

The government has formed a 102-member national committee for the nationwide celebration of the birth centenary of architect of independent Bangladesh Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been made the President of the committee, while PM’s former Principal Secretary Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury became Member Secretary, according to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Thursday.
The body also comprises National Professors Prof Emeritus Anisuzzaman and Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, journalist and writer Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury, Bangabandhu’s younger daughter Sheikh Rehana, Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, Opposition Leader HM Ershad, former Chief Justice ABM Khairul Haque, ex-ministers including AMA Muhith, Amir Hossain Amu, Tofail Ahmed, Begum Matia Chowdhury, Mohammed Nasim, Khandker Mosharraf Hossain, Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, Rashed Khan Menon, Hasanul Haq Inu and Asaduzzaman Noor, incumbent ministers Obaidul Quader, Dr Abdur Razzak, Asaduzzaman Khan, Dr Hasan Mahmud, Anisul Huq, AHM Mustafa Kamal, Dr Dipu Moni, AK Abdul Momen, AKM Mozammel Haque, Bir Bahadur Ushwe Sing and Mustafa Jabbar, Prime Minister’s advisers HT Imam, Dr Mashiur Rahman, Dr Towfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, Dr Gowher Rizvi, Major Gen. (rtd) Tarique Ahmed Siddiq and Sajeeb Wazed Joy, former Chief Whip Abul Hasnat Abdullah, Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sayeed Khokon, State Ministers Nasrul Hamid and KM Khalid.
Besides, the Cabinet Secretary, chiefs of three services, PM’s Principal Secretary, SDG Affairs Chief Coordinator of PMO, lawmakers, Inspector General of Police, academicians, economists, representatives of professional bodies, religious leaders, researchers, writers, artistes, journalists, poets, cultural personalities and sportsmen have been included in the committee.
The committee will formulate year-long policy, plan and programme to celebrate the 100th birth anniversary of Bangabandhu at the national level between March 17, 2020 and March 17, 2021.
Another 61-member committee titled “Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Birth Centenary Celebration National Implementation Committee” has been constituted.
