UK election: PM greets Tulip, Rupa, Rushanara

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday congratulated Tulip Rizwana Siddiq, granddaughter of Bangabandhu and two other two Bangladesh-origin British politicians- Rushanara Ali and Dr Rupa Huq- on their reelection in the United Kingdom parliamentary polls.
“They have brightened the face of the people of Bangladesh through the victory,” she said.
“The victory of three daughters-Tulip Rizwana Siddique, Rushanara Ali
 and Dr Rupa Huq-is a matter of pride for Bangladesh, ” the Prime Minister was quoted as saying by her press secretary Ihsanul Karim.
“I hope that that the crown of victory they brought for the people of the country will spread the beam of light forever, they have brightened the face of the people of Bangladesh through the victory.” Karim quoted the Prime Minister.
Labour Party candidate Tulip Rizwana Siddiq was reelected with a huge margin in the United Kingdom snap general elections held on Thursday.
Tulip, Sheikh Rehana’s daughter and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina niece, retained her Hampstead and Kilburn seat with a margin of 15,560 votes.
She polled 34,464 against her Conservative rival’s Claire-Louise Leyland 18,904 in Hampstead and Kilburn seat. Besides, Rushanara Ali and Dr Rupa Huq, both from the Labour Party, were also reelected with a huge margin of votes from Bethnal Green and Bow constituency and the Ealing Central and Acton constituency respectively.
Rushanara Ali has won with 42,969 votes and Rupa recorded victory with 13,807 more votes than her competitor Conservative candidate Joy Morrissey.
“Humbled to be re-elected for my home seat of Hampstead and Kilburn! Thank you all so much for your kind support,” Tulip tweeted after her win in the polls.
Meanwhile, Rupa Huq thanked everyone who voted for her in the polls.
“The voters of Ealing Central and Acton re-elected Dr Rupa Huq as our MP with a hugely increased majority,” reads a message on her website.
