Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday said that she had felt same conspiracies like that of the 1974 famine period during the January 5 elections.
“I felt the same conspiracy before the January 5 (national) elections,” she said while giving an introductory speech during her visit to the Social Welfare Ministry at the Bangladesh Secretariat.
Recalling the international conspiracy during the 1974 famine, she said: “None had died during the famine after the Independence. Yes, there was famine in the country in 1974, but that was not limited only to Bangladesh. There was economic meltdown across the globe.”
According to the Wikipedia, the Bangladesh famine of 1974 refers to a period of mass starvation beginning in March 1974 and ending in about December of the same year.
The Prime Minister said that at that time famine was going on in various countries around the world including India and China.
She alleged that there were some conspiracies as the cash-purchased foodgrains
loaded vessel was not allowed to come. “It was a big conspiracy and a big manipulation,” she said without mentioning the name of any country involved.
Hasina said that, such kind of conspiracy she had felt before the January 5 elections. “A section of people tried to remove us from the power and put their efforts so that democratic process can not continue in the country.”
In this connection, she mentioned that as she had the experience of such kind of conspiracy in 1974 she managed to tackle the situation this time.
For this, the Prime Minister thanked the armed forces, police, BGB, RAB, employees of the administration, and above all, people of the country for their all out support. “All were united on one issue… they wanted to uphold the democratic process,” she said.
