BNP Standing Committee Member Barrister Moudud Ahmed on Friday said that this generation would remember the prime minister always for her failure to keep her promise given
over quota system in government job.
“The Prime Minister said in the Parliament on April 11 that the quota system would not exist anymore. But on June 27 she said quota system would remain. The generation will remember it,” said Barrister Moudud Ahmed while addressing a protest meeting in the National Press Club.
He said, the government is now saying there is a High Court verdict regarding the Freedom Fighters’ family quota.
Moudud Ahmed, also a former Law Minister, said, “So far I can recall there is no such a verdict. But if such a judgment prevails then the government should go to court to amend that.”
“If the Prime Minister is honest to protect her given promise regarding this, she should send the Attorney General to court to take process to amend the judgment,” he said.
Moudud Ahmed said, quota reform agitation leader Rashed had been remanded for 10 days. His mother is crying and requesting to the government for his return.
Another leader Suhel has also been detained and Chhatra League cadres have broken Tariqul’s backbone.
“The Prime Minister said they should be punished. VC of a university called them militants. It is fascism,” he said.
He affirmed, this agitation has no political link. The students struggle to meet educational expenses. Most of their parents are poor. They fail to get a job even after achieving good results for the quota system. The agitation is the result for their long deprivation. The PM should consider it.
Swadhinata Forum organised the programme demanding to stop conspiracy against BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.
Moudud Ahmed demanded quick release of Khaleda Zia from jail. Abu Naser Muhammad Rahmatullah, President of the forum presided over the programme.
Ganosaystho Kendro Trusty Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury and BNP Vice-Chairman Selima Rahman, among others, delivered lectures.
