UNB, Dhaka :
President of Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh (BDB) AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury on Friday urged Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to place the proposal on the election-time interim government she had presented before the January-5 election in 2014.
“As you’re the daughter of Bangabandhu, who used to enquire about Shah Aziz when he was in jail, you should have the moral courage. So,
I request you to place that proposal (on interim govt) afresh so that a good and almost neutral government can be established during the next polls,” he said.
He came up with the call while unveiling the cover of a book titled ‘Bangladesher Oli Ahad’ written by poet Abdul Hye Shikder at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU). He said the Election Commission will not be able to hold a fair election, no matter with whom it is formed, unless a neutral government is installed during the election. “So, the polls-time government must be neutral one.”
Before the January-5 election, B Chowdhury said the Prime Minister had phoned then opposition leader Khaleda Zia to come forward and join the lection-time cabinet taking some ministries to hold a good election with united efforts. The Prime Minister had also proposed giving the opposition two important ministries-home and establishment-which play the vital role in making the EC independent to hold a fair election. “Which can be more justified proposal than the Prime Minister’s one when there’s no constitutional provision for a neutral administration.” He criticised the then opposition leader for turning down the proposal within a second. “Probably, someone had misled her saying Madam don’t worry we’ll save Bangladesh as all people are with us. But, I still think, Khaleda Zia should have accepted that proposal.”
B Chowdhury, also a former President, bemoaned that the country is being affected for lack of good relation among the current politicians. Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder Zafrullah Chowdhury suggested Khaleda to take to the streets with courage instead of staying home idle.
“Come out of your house. Now your party’s 14,000 people are in jail. 20,000 more may be sent there. But you just try to change the situation. People never rejected you.”
He also said not only BNP, but also all other parties should get united to ensure a fair politics and fair elections.
Zafrullah again criticised BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi for holding frequent press conferences and issuing press releases. “You please stop holding press conferences and issuing press releases. How many press releases will you issue? Either take to streets, or stay home idle.”
