Societal Events Report :In our country, Pitha Utsab (cake festival) is an age-old festival during the winter season. This type of festival is frequently seen in the rural areas. But unfortunately this festival is gradually disappearing from the urban life. From this point of view who miss the tradition in the urban life, can enjoy delicious pithas at the Jatiyo Pitha Utsab on Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy premises in the city’s Segunbagicha area.The seventh edition of Jatiyo Pitha Utsab in the open space of the Shilpakala Academy organised by Jatiyo Pitha Utsab Udjapon Parishad has presented the urban residents a taste of traditional winter in the centre of the city. The festival was inaugurated by the Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu as the chief guest on January 24. M Hamid, President of Jatiyo Pitha Utsab Udjapon Parishad, among others, were also present at the inauguration. Around 30 stalls with more than 150 varieties of traditional pithas have been soothing the need to visit the villages for pithas. Malpoya, Malai, Pata, Rosh Phul, Khejur Kinni, Bhajapuri, Bou Pitha, Kola Pitha, Pati Sapta, Rosh Golap, Nakshi Pitha, Pantua, Ilish Pitha, Jhinuk Pitha, Puli Pitha, Dudh Chitai, Hriday Haran are just some of the names of various pithas being sold at the festival. Apart from the grandeur and colour of the pithas the visitors are being entertained with traditional songs presented by singers from across the country.
