Physical exercise to avoid heart disease risks stressed

Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim urged the people to do physical exercises to prevent heart diseases.
“People should do physical exercises regularly and be careful about using new technologies as sometime it becomes the reason of heart diseases,” he said.
He said this on Thursday while speaking as the chief guest at a seminar on heart disease with national professor and founder president of National Heart Foundation of Bangladesh (NHFB) Brig (Retd) Dr Abdul Malik in the chair.
National Heart Foundation Hospital and Research Centre (NHFRC) organised the seminar at its auditorium in city’s Mirpur to mark the World Heart Day, 2016 with the theme ‘Power Your Life’ aims to create awareness to reduce cardiovascular risks and promote a heart-healthy planet.
“Walk and try to avoid lift,” the minister suggested and said, people should avoid using tobacco as it is a hidden killer and gradually lead an individual towards death.
Prof Sohel Reza Choudhury presented the keynote paper at the seminar.
Director General of Health Services Professor Dr Abul Kalam Azad, World Health Organisation Country representative Dr N Paraneitharan and NHFB Vice President Dr M Serajul Islam also spoke, among others, on the occasion.
According to the World Heart Federation, cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the world’s number one killer. Each year, it is responsible for 17.5 million premature deaths, and by 2030 this is expected to rise to 23 millions. Dr Abul Kalam Azad said, social mobilization campaign should be started across the country to inspire people to have physical exercises and other healthy practices which can prevent heart dieses.
Brig (Retd) Dr Abdul Malik said, “Daily physical activity can help prevent heart diseases and stroke by strengthening heart muscle, lowering blood pressure, raising high-density lipoprotein (HDL) levels improving blood flow”.
Dr N Paraneitharan suggested, ” people are suffering from cardiovascular diseases more because of their unhealthy life style.”
Everybody has to be careful regarding body weight, blood pressure, salt intake etc, as the treatment of heart diseases is expensive, preventive measures should be taken,
People should try to make a heart-healthy environment avoiding fast food and maintaining smoke-free zones, he said.
