Phulbari Day today

The local unit of National Committee to Protect Oil, Gas, Mineral Resource, Power and Ports will observe Phulbari Day today( Friday) to mark the 10th anniversary of Phulbari tragedy.
On this day in 2006, three people, Amin, Salaken and Tarequl, were killed and over hundred were injured when the police and BDR opened fired on a protest rally against the inauguration of pit mining at Phulbari in Dinajpur.
Local unit of the Committee organised the rally protesting the plan of Phulbari Coal Mine for opening pit method by Asia Energy.
On August 30 ,2006 after 4 days of agitation, the four parties alliance government led by BNP signed a six- point Phulbari deal with the protesters to contain the movement. After that the opposition leader in the Parliament, Sheikh Hasina, now the Prime Minister and president of the Awami League visited Phulbari .
The committee has declared various programmes to mark the Day . The local unit of the committee will host black and nation flags at Phulbari at 7.01 am and the people will wear black badges at 7.30am , gather in Phulbari town at 8.30am , hold a rally at 9.00am and place wreaths at monument set up there at 10.00am and a commemoration meeting will be held at Nimtola crossing of Phulbar at 10.30am.
