A Philippine military plane carrying 85 people crashed in the southern Philippines on Sunday, news agency AFP reported quoting Armed Forces Chief Cirilito Sobejana as saying. Till now 40 people have been rescued from the burning wreckage of the C-130, which crashed as it tried to land on Jolo island in Sulu province. A search and rescue operation is underway to save the remaining people on the plane.
The majority of the passengers on the plane were recent graduates of basic military training and were being transported for deployment to the island as part of a joint task force fighting terrorism in the Muslim-majority region.
