UNB, Dhaka :
Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) will set up four new grid-substations in order to strengthen its transmission network.
The grid substations, each having capacity of 132/33 kV, will be installed in Bhaluka, Mymensingh, Baryear Hat (Mirsarai of Chittagong), and Ramganj (Luxmipur). The PGCB selected a joint consortium of local firm EnergyPac and South Korean Daewoo International Corporation as contractor for the project.
Officials of both PGCB and the consortium on Tuesday entered into a deal through signing a contract
to implement the project. As per the deal, the EnergyPac-Daewoo Consortium will set up the grid substations within next 24 months on turnkey basis at a contract value of Tk 106.30 crore, and then hand over them to the PGCB.
The PGCB officials said the high-capacity substations are being installed under the PGCB’s National Power Transmission Network Development Project (NPTNDP) with financial support of the Japanese donor agency-JICA. They said that growing demand for power in Bhaluka on the backdrop of fast industrialization has prompted them to take up the substation project.
“We hope, the project will play a vital role to ensure uninterrupted power supply to industries in the area,” said a PGCB official, adding that the existing grid substation in Mymensigh will be expanded with the new one.
The PGCB official also said that the Baryear Hat substation is being set up to provide electricity to the upcoming industries in the planned economic zone being developed in Mirsarai of Chittagong.
PGCB acting managing director Mohammad Safiullah and other officials of both PGCB, EnergyPac and Daewoo were present at contract signing ceremony.
