An online petition has been circulating around social media to remove Amber Heard from the upcoming Aquaman sequel.
Created by Jeanne Larson, the petition is titled ‘Remove Amber Heard from Aquaman 2’ claim that Heard ‘systematically crusaded to ruin Depp in Hollywood’ following their divorce in 2017, reports Deadline.
The petition, which hopes to get a total of three million signatures received a total of 1,579,927 signatures and is addressed to executives at both DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. The actress’s role as Mera in the DC superhero film series has been criticised by supporters of Johnny Depp, after the actor lost his high-profile libel case against the Sun newspaper.
Heard, 34, has repeatedly denied the accusation, telling Entertainment Weekly: “Paid rumours and paid campaigns on social media don’t dictate (casting decisions) because they have no basis in reality.”
Aquaman 2 is set for a 2022 release, with James Wan placed to direct, and Patrick Wilson and Jason Momoa to reprise their roles from the previous installment.
