Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid has warned the teachers of government educational institutions not to persuade officials to transfer them to capital Dhaka from outside.
“If anyone comes up with recommendations from minister, secretary or director general, the result will be counterproductive,” he said while speaking at the inauguration of a conference of the principals of government colleges on Saturday.
The minister said, “There are so many teachers who are very eager to get transferred to the places of their choice. If 100 teachers meet me, 80 of them pester me to get them transferred to Dhaka.”
He advised the teachers to apply online for transfer. “If the reasons are genuine we’ll certainly consider it… but no persuasion will be entertained.” The conference tiled ‘Improvement of Quality of Education and Principals of Government Colleges’ was held at the International Mother Language Institute. Principals of 329 institutions took part in it.
Nahid urged the principals to be good administrator apart from being good teachers. The minister reiterated his plan to lessen the time span of public examinations. “I personally believe public exams should not be stretched for long. Exams should not go on for over 10 days.”
