People’s support to free society from drug abuse emphasized

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, MP, said cooperation of all strata of life has become an urgent need to free the society from abuse of drugs along with its illicit trafficking and trading.
“Drugs are not manufactured in our country and all of those are brought from neighbouring countries,” he said while addressing a rally against drug abuse and militancy at Shaheed Mamun Mahmud School and College playground in Rajshahi on Tuesday as the chief guest.
The minister said only the government or the law enforcing agencies alone can’t eradicate drug abuse. So, the public in general should come forward and work together to attain desired yield in this regard.
“We have to protect the young generation from the grip of the drugs,” he said, adding that the law enforcing agencies are working relentlessly to attain desired yield in this field, reports BSS.
Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation and Awami League Presidium Member AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, Senior Secretary of the ministry Akhter Hossain and Commissioner of Rajshahi division GSM Zafarullah addressed the meeting as special guests.
With RMP Commissioner Abu Kalam Siddique in the chair, the meeting was also addressed by Deputy Inspector General of Police Abdul Baten, Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Abdul Jalil and Superintendent of Police Masud Hossain.
“Police gained success in the drives against militancy and arson-terrorism and they will also be successful in the efforts of making the society free from drug abuse,” the minister hoped.
 Mentioning that the present government has a declaration of zero tolerance against drug-addiction, he urged all quarters to come forward to protect the young generation from the grip of social crime.
“We have to build a healthy society to achieve sustainable development goals,” he said, adding the movement against drug abuse should be turned into a social movement.
