Peoples’ participation must to ensure transparency in edn sector

Speakers at a discussion viewed that peoples participation could be the effective means of ensuring transparency and accountability at grassroots level education sector. They observed that role of school managing committee (SMC), teachers, leaders of influence and parents especially the mothers’ is very important to make the local level primary schools more functional and enrich children with moral and social values.
The observations came in a meeting with SMC, school teachers and local leaders at Dashmari Govt. Primary School in Rajshahi yesterday.
Committee of Conscious Citizens (CCC), an inspired organisation of Transparency International, Bangladesh (TIB), organized the meeting. With SMC President Abdul Khaleque Mollah in the chair, Ward Councilor of Rajshahi City Corporation Shah Jahan Ali, CCC President Prof Abdus Salam and its Member Akbarul Hassan Millat, TIB Area Manager Mahmud Ali and school teachers Shah Jamal, Nanda Dulal Das and Irin Parveen spoke on the occasion.
The main thrust of the meeting was to motivate and encourage the local people so that they work together for transforming the school into an ideal and standard one as they have vital role to this end.
The speakers stated the SMC members deserved the rights to make the services of the primary teachers and others concerned transparent and accountable through proper surveillance.
To this end, they laid emphasis on making the guardians and the mothers as well aware about their rights and responsibility towards making the local level government institutions including the primary schools effective. Mothers have bigger role to play for depicting the school problems being faced by the students as they are always ahead than the teachers and others concerned.
In addition to the early childhood mental and physical development, they mentioned that proper institutional learning of the children is totally dependent on the mothers’ awareness.
