Lawmakers urged the people to vote for the symbol of boat for constituting government under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for building a prosperous country dreamt by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Taking part in the discussion on the thanksgiving motion on the President’s address to the House on Sunday, they hailed the present government of Sheikh Hasina for taking forward the country towards development.
Bangladesh has already entered into the lower medium income country from the less developed country (LDC) status overcoming all the three indicators, said Major General (retd) ATM Abdul Wahab of Magura-1.
“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been selected one of the top five most honest leaders in the world …while the BNP leader Begum Zia and his family is involved with corruption, so the people will consider who are safe for the country,” he said.
Criticizing BNP chairperson Begum Zia, Iftekhar Uddin Talukder Pintu of Netrokona-3, said Khaleda Zia made the country champion in corruption for five consecutive years while Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina turned the country a ‘role model’ of development.
“Per capita income, GDP growth rate and foreign reserve have already increased significantly and if the growth rate sustained then the country would be middle income one by the stipulated 2021,” he added.
Opposition member M Noman said Bangladesh has achieved tremendous success in various sectors including electricity, food, agriculture, education, communications, railways, ICT and others.
He said the per capita income now rose to 1600 US dollars…poverty rate declined to 22 per cent and extreme poverty rate declined to 12 per cent.
