People unite against militancy, terrorism

Sylhet Correspondent :All sections of people in the Sylhet City and district area are united against militancy.Several Students, teachers, cultural activists as well as alems-ulemas and different religious organisations in Sylhet area have already joined the procession to combat militancy. People belonging to different classes and professions are also vocal against militant activities. Although there is no understanding among the political parties on the issue, solid unity has developed against militancy among the people from the different kinds of people in Sylhet City, district and 13 upazilas.The spread of militancy and side by side involvement of children of rich families and students of higher educational institutions have made all worried. There is fear in public minds of fresh attacks as a good number of youths reportedly went missing and joined militant activities.The indication of all-out resistance against the militancy in the district area has already been visible and multi-prong activities have started. Leaders and activists of political parties as well as social, cultural and professional organisations are out in the field with programmes. Everyday, different anti-militancy programmes, meetings, rallies, seminars and human chains are being held. People are joining spontaneously in these programmes of socio-cultural resistance and call for national unity.As the eyes of international militant organisations are fixed on Bangladesh, the members of the law enforcement agencies are trying to find out their involvement and the roots of the extremists inside the country.The education ministry has also moved about as a section of the students of major educational institutions joined militant activities. Motivational programmes aimed at bringing back the derailed students to normal life are being undertaken. Special instructions are being sent to all kinds of educational institutions including higher educational institutions, schools, colleges and madrasas. Views exchange meetings and rallies with the authorities of those institutions are being arranged.RU Correspondent reports: A discussion meeting was held yesterday on anti-militancy organized by university administration at Kazi Nazrul Islam auditorium of Rajshahi University (RU) to increase the awarness of the university students for preventing it from the university. The program was directed by student advisor ProfessorDr. Mizanur Rahman Khan while RU Ve -Chancellar Professor Dr.Mizanuddin was in the chair. Pro-Vice Chancellar Prof Chawdhury Sarwar Jahan, Tresurer Prof Dr. Sayenuddin, Islamics schoolar and also Islamic Studies teacher Prof Dr. Barkatur Rahman Banu, among others, spoke on the program.Staff Reporter, Kishoreganj reports: Kishoreganj District Bar Assocaition arranged a protest rally, procession and human chain in front of Collectorate building on Monday with a call for resisting militancy and creating awarness . Bar President Advocate Jalal Md. Gous presided over the programmes while it was addressed among othes by Ex. Bar President Advocate Shah Azizul Hoque, Special P.P Advocate M.A Afzal, Senior Advocate Mozammel Hoque Khan Raton, Senior Advocate Dholon Bhowmik and Bar Secretary Shahidul Alam. They said that militancy must be rooted out from the country with all strength fro protecting the existence of independent and sovereign of our beloved country. Bangladesh is a secular country and there is no room for militants.Rampal-Mongla Correspondent adds: An awareness meeting on anti-terrorism and militancy held in Rampal College on Tuesday . The programme was presided over by the principal of Rampal College Md. Maznur Rahman, MP of Rampal-Mongla Constituency Alhaj Talukder Abdul Khaleq addressed there as chief guest in the function. The teachers and students of all sections of the college participated in the awareness program. Upazila Chairman Sk. Md. Abu Sayed , Ex-Upazilla Chairman Mollah Abdur Rouf , Uapzilla Vice Chairman Sk. Moajjem Hossain ,Mohila Vice Chairman Hosneara Mily , Muktijoddha Commander Sk. Mojaffar Hossain , Upazilla AL member Master Azam Hossain ,lecturer Md. Saiful Alam , Sk. Shanewaj , Md. Sahidul Islam , Upazilla Chatraleague secretary Sk. Mohammad Sadi ,College president Sk. Sahariar Hossain Rubel delivered an important speech . Chief guest in his speech told that Islam is a religion of peace. Islam never support bloodshed and killing .He also told that when our country is marching forward under the leadership of Sk. Hasina , Jamayat-BNP alliance tried to make an obstacle in the way of development by killing innocent people and the people of other religion. It is the Jamayti Islam who massacred the country during the war of liberation , this defeated force are in heinous conspiracy against the country. He urged the students by saying that they are the future representatives of the country. And if they be inspired by the spirit of liberation ,terrorism and militancy will be removed from the country. They have to be watchful of the interest country. The function came to an end at 12 p.m.
