The BNP said on Tuesday that the people understood it better why the police did not allow the party to hold a rally?
“Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) acted negatively only to make the ruling Awami League happy. The government asked the DMP to hinder the BNP to translate its democratic programmes,” Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, the BNP Senior Joint-Secretary General said it while addressing a press briefing at the party’s Naya Paltan office.
Rizvi accused the government of directing the police not to allow the BNP to hold a rally on January 7 in the city. The party wanted to observe January 5 as the ‘Democracy Killing Day’ on January 7, as per earlier desicion.
Claiming that the people have no share in the government’s ‘Democracy Development Fair’, programme, said the BNP leader adding that such a fair was nothing but to deceive the people.
He alleged that the partisan officials in the administration were compelled to
observe Democracy’s Development Fair in all districts and upazilas across the country.
Rizvi labeled the Fair as ‘digital farce’ saying the people lacked mental peace, money, food and security.
The BNP leader also criticised the government for changing the name of Pirojpur’s Zianagar upazila, saying it had demonstrated the government’s aggressive political vengeance.
He strongly protested and denounced the government’s move and demanded the cancellation of the decision to prove honesty in politics.
“If the people’s government is formed any day, they may change the names of many establishments named after Awami League top leaders,” Rizvi said.
Replying a question of journalists, Rizvi said, “The BNP needs some time to face Awami League’s aggressive behaviour in politics.”
BNP central leader Abdus Salam, Ruhul Quddus Talukdar Dulu and Abdus Salam Azad, among others, were present.
