UNB, Dhaka :
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday said people will bring Awami League back to power as they are enjoying the benefits of development due to the continuation of her government.
“People are enjoying the benefits of development as there is the continuation of the government,” she said.
The Prime Minister said this when leaders and activists of Swechchhasebak League met her at Ganobhaban on the occasion of the founding anniversary of their organisation.
Recalling the atrocities of BNP-Jamaat clique during the last general election, Sheikh Hasina said this evil force had tried its best to foil the polls. “The country’s people will resist their such heinous design in the future and bring Awami League to power again.”
The Prime Minister mentioned that today the world does not see Bangladesh in merciful eyes rather they see it in the eyes of dignity.
She asked the leaders and activists of Swechchhasebak League to do politics with a sacrificing mentality as Bangabandhu did.
“You have to do politics habouring the attitude of sacrifice like Bangabandhu…you must always think about how much you’re able to give to the country and its people,” Hasina said.
She said Awami League’s politics always goes to one direction – ensuring the welfare of people as dreamt by Father of the
Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
“I’ll tell you that those who’ll do politics with the mentality of sacrifice will be able to have a dignified place in people’s hearts, and that’s the highest reward for a politician in his or her life,” she said.
The Prime Minister said politicians have two aims – one what he or she can do for people and another how one can change one’s fate with public wealth.
She asked the Swechchhasebak League leaders and workers to choose the first one as their political philosophy.
The Prime Minister also directed its leaders and workers to play their active role in strengthening Bangladesh Awami League to materialise the dreams and aspirations of people.
Highlighting the long struggle, life and works of Bangabandhu for establishing an independent country, Hasina said he dreamt of building a poverty- and hunger-free Bangladesh through ensuring the economic emancipation of people.
She said usurpers began the politics of killing, coup and conspiracy after killing Bangabandhu and they pushed the country backwards by making anti-liberation forces and war criminals part of state power.
Hasina also urged people to pray for her son-eminent IT expert Sazeeb Wazed Joy-on the occasion of his birthday on Thursday.
She also shared her bitter experience as an expecting mother during the Liberation War as she along with other members of the family had been under house arrest at Dhanmondi.
Earlier, Bangladesh Swechchhasebak League Central Committee and its Dhaka City North and South Unit presented bouquets to the Prime Minister.
Swechchhasebak League president Adv Molla M Abu Kawsar and general secretary Pankaj Debnath also spoke on the occasion.
