Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya on Sunday said countrywide hartal called by the Jamaat-e-Islami to protect its leader war criminal Delwar Hossain Sayeedi has been rejected by the people of the country.
“Jamaat did not called the hartal for the welfare of the country and its citizens, rather they are more interested to protect its leader war criminal Sayeedi convicted by the War Crimes Tribunal for crimes against humanity during the liberation war,” he added.
The minister was addressing the anti-hartal rally as chief guest organized by the Sammilito Awami Samarthok Jote in front of its party office in city’s Bangabandhu Avenue.
About BNP’s Monday’s hartal, Maya said the 20-party alliance actually stood for the Jamaat leader war criminal Sayeedi, although they are telling that they have called hartal protesting the 16th amendment of the constitution.
He said the killers of 1971, 75 and August 21, 2004 have united under the leadership of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
The minister alleged the BNP-Jamaat alliance actually wants to take over power by the back door through terrorism, anarchy and militant activities.
Dhaka City Awami League Acting President M A Aziz, vice president Fayez Uddin Mia, Mukul Chowdhury and organizing secretary Shahe Alam Murad also spoke on the occasion with Sammilitiyo Awami Samarthok Jote Chairman and City Awami League Publicity Secreatry Abdul Huq Sabuj in the chair.
