Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Ma Mingqiang on Sunday expressed optimism that Bangladesh and Myanmar would settle the Rohingya problem peacefully.
“We do hope that the issue (Rohingya) will be settled peacefully as soon as possible,” he said at a handover ceremony of the acceptance certificate on Chinese fire-fighting equipment to Bangladesh as grant.
The envoy said Bangladesh and Myanmar as two friendly nations and “we hope our two brothers will sit down and solve this problem”.
Ma Mingqiang and Disaster Management and Relief Secretary M Shah Kamal signed the acceptance certificate on behalf of their respected sides at the Economic Relations Division (ERD) at the city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
The Chinese ambassador said both China and Bangladesh face similar natural disasters like flood, drought and earthquake.
The firefighting and rescue equipment that include escalators, air compressors, generators and forklifts would be real help for Bangladesh to minimize the impact of disaster, the envoy said.
M Shah Kamal said the equipment would be useful in giving training to volunteers and others in tackling disasters and conducting rescue operations.
