Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Wednesday said lessons provided by the ‘Peace’ schools and its atmosphere are not useful at all for the country’s students.
The management members of the schools are against the country’s independence. Further steps will be taken against ‘Peace’ schools after investigations, he said.
He said this on Wednesday while speaking in an inaugural ceremony on ‘Young Change Makers’ Coalition in Bangladesh’ as the
chief guest in the capital’s CIRDAP Auditorium.
Youth and Sports Secretary Kazi Akhter Uddin Ahmed, Women and Children Affairs Secretary Nasima Begum, Additional Secretary to health and Family Affairs Ministry Suvash Chandra Sarkar and Joint Secretary to Youth and Sports Ministry Ranjit Kumar Das spoke on the occasion, among others.
Nurul Islam Nahid said although the main branch of Peace International School has permission to operate, there is no approval for its other branches.
Earlier on Tuesday, the government ordered closure of Peace International School and all branches of ‘Peace’ school across the country immediately
The minister also urged to engage the young of the country in co-education activities.
“The present government has taken the challenge of ensuring quality education for the new generation,” he said.
“Government is working to give knowledge and technology- based world-standard education in line with morality as well as the spirit of 1971 Liberation War,” he said.
The minister said “The government is also imparting training gradually for the teachers in this connection.”
‘Young Change Makers Coalition in Bangladesh (YCMC)’, a youth platform of 12 national and international organizations working with education, child marriage, reproductive health and gender iniquity, organized the programme on “Role of Youths for Positive Social Change” chaired by SM Saikat.
Education Minister requested to the organizers’ to be practical and informative.
“Criticize our works being well informed,” Nahid told the leaders of YCMC referring to different successful steps of the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
About the inclusion of adolescent and reproductive education in the academic curriculum, he said he and his government had to face bitter criticism earlier but subsequently the whole country is benefited.
Taking part in the discussion, the YCMC leaders vowed to provide all-out cooperation to the government.
It may be mentioned that the intelligence report said around 27 “peace schools” in six districts were being run by pro-Jamaat-e-Islami men and a portion of their income was being spent on the party’s organisational activities.
