PDF demands friendly campus

Physically-challenged Development Foundation (PDF) of Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit on Sunday demanded to make all university campus friendly for the disable students.
The demand came from a press meet marking the International Wheelchair Day organized by JU PDF at the office of JU Journalists’ Association on the campus here at about 4.30 pm.
Addressing the press meet, Vice-President of Central PDF Muhammad Abdul Khalique said, ‘there are 15 percent of total population of Bangladesh is disabled, but the ratio of the
disabled students in the university is very poor’. He also claimed that, if the university environment be friendly to the disabled students, the enrolment rate of the disabled students would be high like others countries.
Najmus Sakib, one of the physically challenged student said that, there are no access for wheelchair at JU campus as the wheelchair users could not move in the campus smoothly.
“There are also three students who use wheelchair are studying in different departments; but due to lack of friendly infrastructural development to wheelchair users, they have to face various problems like move to departments, faculties, residential halls, registrar building so on”, Najmus Sakib said.
Conducted by the Secretary of JU PDF Md. Kawsar Hamid, President of JU PDF Abdul Jalil, Central President of PDF Mizanur Rahman Kiron, PDF member Mahmud Muhsin, Matin Miya, Biplob Kumar and Lutfun Nahar were present at the conference among others.
The disability quota for students with disabilities was launched in JU since 2008 while more than 40 disabled students are studying in current year.
