Elite police investigation agency named Police Bureau of Investigation(PBI)began their formal activities from Chittagong recently after four years of its constitution.
PBI is established with the similar consent of Federal Bureau of Investigation(FBI) of United States of America . The district office of PBI was established in Chittagong in April 2014 at Chandgaon Residential area.
12 police officials were transferred in this new elite investigation force in Chittagong headed by Additional Police super Wahidul Hoque Chowdhury and necessary equipment and transports also procured for running the activities of the elite agency.
The PBI launched their formal activities from june 12 last.While contacted Police Super of PBI Wahidul Hoque Chowdhury told that PBI gots responsibilities of enquiry of 11 criminal offenses as directed by court in the meantime. First of all , PBI started investigation of a case of Fatikchari Samitir Hat clash from June 12 last .
He told out of 11 criminal cases, other cases of Khulsi thana, Akber Shah Thana, Kotwali thana in city relates anarchy, violence and disputes over lands and properties.
Besides, Additional Police super, there are 6 Inspectors and 5 sub-inspectors in Ctg office, sources said.
Sources said PBI was constituted in 2011 under section of Police Act -1861 with the power exercised by Ministry of Home . Under Police Act-1861, PBI is empowered to launch investigations of 10 natures of criminal offenses viz. murder, dacoity, rape, arms case, explosive case , cyber crimes, manpower trafficking, abduction and drugs related offenses, sources said.
Police official told that though PBI is constituted but rules and regulations not yet formulated and hence there are some complications over the investigations at own initiatives.
But now the investigations may be conducted as per order of the courts either in district and the metropolitan areas. PBI District chief Wahidul Hoque Chowdhury told that after enactment of rules and regulations for PBI, PBI will be empowered to investigate any offenses at their own initiatives and the Officer in-charges of thanas will be compelled to apprise the offenses so occurred in the district or metro areas to PBI, sources said.
