Chittagong City Corporation Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin speaking at an Eid re-union party of Tax Department of CCC held at Theater Institute Hall in the port city on Thursday evening.
If the city dwellers pay the taxes regularly, the city corporation will be able to give better services to them. Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin urged made this remark while addressing Eid reunion party of Tax Department of CCC as chief guest on Thursday evening at Theater Institute Hall in the port city.
CCC mayor said, “Vested quarters of people are trying to discourage city dwellers to pay taxes by propagating that the city corporation has increased the holding taxes. But, CCC has not increased any taxes instead of releasing the values of holdings which has caused a slight increase in holding taxes.”
“Many of the owners are criticizing the corporation’s activities instead of paying the taxes in time. But I would say pay the taxes first then take the services from CCC,” he added. Mayor AJM Nasir also said, “The water-logging problem of Chittagong city will not be removed within next two years as it will take time.”
“It is a fact that water-logging is a longstanding problem for Chittagong. But, as a mayor I am trying to reduce the water-logging problem”, he claimed. He further said, “If the master plan of Chittagong could be implemented, the problem of water-logging is likely would have been removed. The tenure of master plan ended last year but it could not be implemented.”
However, the engineering section was directed to take necessary action to remove the waters through drains immediately,” he added. The function was chaired by the Chief Executive of Chittagong City Corpora-tion Moha-mmad Shams-uddoha. Among others, ward councilors Habibul Haq, Mohammad Shafiul Alam, Secretary of CCC Mohammad Abul Hossain, Chief Engineer Lt Colonel Mohiuddin Ahmed, Chief Education Officer Najia Shirin and Engineer Abdur Rashid addressed the function.
