Showing the plea of Eid vacation, patients were given release letters by the authorities of Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) it is alleged.
Eid vacation started on last Sunday and effect of this vacation has also fallen on government hospitals. KMCH authorities gave release letters to some patients since Saturday, relatives of some patients alleged.
Particularly, this allegation was brought against Dr. Abdul Halim Sardar, assistant professor of Medicine department who is also a neurology specialist and he regularly commit private practice at a private clinic at city’s Hazi Mohsin road area.
Dr. Halim, however, refuted the allegation brought against him.
Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH), the largest government hospital of Khulna Division, has 14 wards. During the Eid vacation, among 160 doctors, only 25 to 30 doctors performed their duties on the basis of roaster. Medicine, Surgery and Orthopedics departments’ doctors gave release letters forcibly, posing threat to the patients, it is alleged.
On condition of anonymity, a brain stroked patient told this correspondent that he had been undergoing treatment since 5 days last in the Medicine department of this hospital and he was not cured fully. But Dr. Halim Sardar forcibly stuck off his name from the register saying that no treatment will be given during the Eid vacation. He also advised him to take rest at home. Despite several requests, this patient could not get rid of getting release letter. Without getting any other alternative, he was admitted in Shaheed Sheikh Abu Naser Specialised Hospital.
A lawyer, son-in-law of a patient also alleged that due to getting force release letter, his father-in-law was shifted to their village home at Jessore.
While visiting the hospital, this correspondent found that a patient was taking by trolley, his wife told this correspondent that they were compelled to return at home at Phultala area as hospital authorities stuck off her husband’s name from the register showing the excuse of Eid vacation.
It is also alleged that some brokers also played role in respect of giving force release letters. It is mentionable that some brokers recently were arrested while they took away a patient to a private clinic.
Some staffs of the hospital and some brokers resisted to take photograph while the New Nation photographer (Khulna) tried to take snaps of the patients who were forcibly released from the hospital.
Dr. Sufian Rustom, residential medical officer (RMO) of the hospital said, more than 800 patients are admitted in this hospital. Most of the doctors are not available due to Eid vacation and as such some 30 doctors are performing duties on the basis of roaster.
Dr. Anando Mohon Saha, superintendent of KMCH said, there is no provision of giving force release letters to the patients.
He said adding that doctors know well – how and when the patients are entitled to get release letters.
“I’ve not yet got any allegation regarding the matter of giving force release letters, if such allegation is brought against anybody, it would be investigated”, Superintendent Anando Mohon said.
