The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) cannot trace any existing link of much talked about ‘Blue Whale Challenge’, also known as Blue Whale Game, in searching international internet getaways and mobile network operators, sources said.
Earlier in October, the BTRC had initiated a move to detect whether there is any presence of the game in the country and to block such game or links, if found.
The telecom regulator body asked all the mobile phone operators and international internet gateways operators to block such links and apps of any such game.
Talking with The New Nation, a senior official of BTRC said that internet gateway operators and mobile phone operators reportedly could not detect any link or website address related with Blue Whale Game.
He said it is quite impossible for any organisation to check personal messages from social media, if such links are spreading in such way.
Dark web might be a possible medium for the operators of the game, also known as curator, to maintain the total process, he said.
Dark web is mostly used by the criminals for illegal activities in the virtual world and such web is inaccessible to everyone, the BTRC official said.
The telecom regulator took the initiative following instruction from Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal following media reports on a father’s allegation that his school-going daughter committed suicide as she got engaged with the Blue Whale Game.
The ‘Blue Whale Challenge’ game, however, is reportedly a game leading to ‘suicides’, challenges players for over 50 days, wherein demanding them to complete tasks given by an anonymous controller.
The BTRC also called on parents to inform the telecom regulator about any such links by dialing 2872 during office working hours.
