The ferry operations on the Daulatdia-Paturia route have returned to normal after remaining at a halt for eight hours due to dense fog on Friday.
As a result the passengers of the vehicles suffered immensely.
The ferries were stuck in the Ports and at the middle of the river after fog began descending on the Padma River around 3am. The services resumed around 11:30am.
Ferry services were suspended at 3:30am due to dense fog covering the entire route, said Daulatdia Ferry Terminal official Abdullah Mia. The ferry services were resumed around 11:30am after it finally cleared,” he said.
Hundreds of vehicles waited on both banks since all 16 ferries for the route were stuck.
Low visibility forced six ferries into waiting at Paturia. Five waited at Daulatdia while five more were stuck at mid-river.
Dense fog causes disruptions in navigating the Padma every year. Ferry operations at Paturia-Daulatdia and Shimulia-Kewrakandi had been halted for maximum five hours on several occasions in the past weeks.
