Parvez sets up emphatic win for Gazi Group

A fierce bowling spell by Indian recruit Parvez Rasool enabled Gazi Group Cricketers to record an overwhelming eight wickets victory over Victoria Sporting Club in the second round of Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (PCL) held on Tuesday at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah.
Chasing a small winning target of 178 runs set by Victoria, Gazi Group hardly had to sweat as they comfortable reached home making 181 in 31.2 overs with eight wickets in hand.
The two Gazi openers — Jahurul Haque (52) and Anamul Haque (50)– gave a solid start contributing 101 runs for the opening stand Moinul Islam broke the partnership removing Anamul.
Later, skipper Nasir Hossain (41) and Mominul Haque (30) completed the formality to remain unbeaten with till the end of the innings.
M Arafat and Moinul Islam shared one wicket each conceding 22 and 40 runs respectively.
Parvez Rasool of Gazi Group was named the player of the match for his fierce bowling display.
Earlier, batting first after winning the toss, Victoria Sporting Club faced early batting jolt and eventually dismissed at a paltry total of 177 in 48.4 overs.
The Victoria’s batsmen failed to build any effective partnership in the face of tight bowling display by the Gazi group bowlers, especially Parvez Rasool, who caused the major damage taking four Victorians wickets giving away 28 runs.
Uttam Sarkar (29) and Shafiul Hayet (26) were the notable scorers for Victoria.
Apart from Parvez’s four wickets haul, Abu Haider and Alauddin Babu captured two wickets each conceding 19 and 31 runs respectively.
