Palli Bidyut quarter robbery: 11 suspects held

Police in separate overnight drives on Wednesday arrested 11 suspected robbers from four districts in connection with a robbery incident at the staff quarters of Palli Bidyut Shamity-2 on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway.
The arrestees were identified as Mehedi Anik, 23, Rana Miah, 22, Jahid Hasan, 19, Kabir Sarkar, 22, Khalil Miah, 22, Raihan Pathan, 23, Mamun, 28, Emran, 25, Mahsin Member, 49, and Russel, 20, a microbus driver of sadar upazila in the district. Khandakar Mohiuddin, superintendent of police, disclosed the matter at a press briefing at his office conference room at about 11:00 am on Thursday.
At the press briefing, he said police conducted separate drives in different districts, including Narsingdi, Kishoreganj, Comilla and Gazipur, and arrested the robbers through cell phone tracking on Wednesday night.
Looted valuables, including Tk 6,700, were recovered from the possession of the arrestees.
Earlier, on the night of January 7, a gang of robbers stormed Palli Bidyut Shamity office-2 on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway. They snatched a rifle from an ansar member on guard there and broke into three houses of Palli Bidyut Samity engineers and looted valuables, including cash, gold ornaments, mobile phone sets and digital cameras.
