Pakistan scored 188 for the loss of two wickets on a rain-halted day 2 in the first Test against Bangladesh at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Sunday.
The second day’s play started at 12.50pm due to rain and wet outfield. After 31 minutes the two umpires called off the second day play.
Pakistan resumed their first innings with the over-night score 161 for the loss of two wickets.
First-down Azhar Ali and second-down Babar Azam resumed their over-night score of 36 and 60 runs respectively. But they could play only 6.2 overs on the second day’s play due to inclement weather. They added more 27 runs together for the unbroken third wicket stand on the second day’s play. The second day’s play came to an end at 3.00pm.
Babar Azam and Azhar Ali put on together 118 runs for the unbroken third wicket partnership.
Babar Azam remained unbeaten with 71 runs. His 113-ball innings saw eight fours and a sixer.
Azhar Ali remained unbeaten with 52 runs. He hit seven fours in his 136-ball knock. The experienced batter of Pakistan reached his 34th fifty-run landmark in Test cricket using 126 balls with seven fours.
The third day’s play will start at 9.30am.
Babar Azam and Azhar Ali will resume their over-night score with 71 and 52 runs respectively.
Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam claimed two wickets at the cost of 49 runs on the first day (Saturday).
