Mohammed Hafeez’s double ton spurred Pakistan to take a 205 runs lead against Bangladesh in the first innings on the third day in the first Test of their two-match Dan Cake Test Cricket Series at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna on Thursday.
In response to Bangladesh 332 runs in the first innings, the visitors resumed the first innings on the third day with overnight 227 for 1 in 58 overs and raised the tally to 537 runs for 5 wickets, at stumps, in 148 overs.
Overnight batsman Mohammad Hafeez, who hit an unbeaten century of 137 on the second day, made double ton scoring 224 runs off 332 balls that included 23 fours and three sixes, before he was caught by Mahmudullah off a Shuvagata Hom delivery, carry the team total to 402 for 4 in 111.3 overs.
Another overnight Azhar Ali scored 83 runs off 177 balls with four fours and one six and was bowled by Shuvagata Hom at 277 for 2 in 71.5 overs.
In the second wicket stand, the Hafeez-Azhar pair contributed 227 runs in 60 overs in the first innings.
Skipper Misbah-ul-Haq was caught by Rubel Hossain off a Taijul Islam delivery after scoring 59 runs off 122 balls with fours and two sixes.
Asad Shafiq and Sarfraz Ahmed were batting scoring 51 runs each when the bails drawn for the third day.
Spinner Taijul Islam grabbed three wickets for 116 runs in his 36 overs spell while Shuvagata Hom took two wickets conceding 112 runs in 32 overs.
