bdnews24.com :An official of the central bank of Pakistan could not enter Bangladesh as she arrived at Dhaka airport without a valid visa.Asma Khalid, Senior Joint Director of the State Bank of Pakistan, arrived at Shahjalal International Airport on Sunday night on a Qatar Airways flight to attend an international workshop. The immigration authorities at the airport, however, did not allow her to enter the country as she had no Bangladeshi visa.The incident happened amidst tension between the two countries over a statement of the Pakistan government on the trial of those committing war crimes during Bangladesh’s struggle for independence in 1971.Mahbubur Rahman, Special Superintendent of immigration police, told the news agency: “She had no (Bangladeshi) visa. Moreover, there is no provision for the issuance of on-arrival visas for Pakistani nationals.””We’ve handed her over to the authorities of the airliner which carried her to Bangladesh,” he said.An official of Armed Police Battalion at the airport told bdnews24.com that the Pakistani central bank official had been stuck at the airport from Sunday night to Monday noon.He said, Asma Khalid left Dhaka airport at around 1:30pm on a Pakistan International Airlines flight.The official, wishing not to be named, said the Pakistani official had tried to contact several people including Bangladesh Bank officials before going back home.
