Dawn.com, Islamabad :The Pakistan Army corps commanders meeting is underway at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi with Army Chief General Raheel Sharif. The corps commanders’ emergency meeting will discuss the ongoing political impasse in the country which is posing a threat to the security of the country.Army Chief General Raheel took the commanders into confidence over his meetings with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, PTI Chief Imran Khan and PAT Chief Tahirul Qadri last week. The meeting will also discuss the deteriorating security along with LOC and working boundary.Earlier, the meeting was scheduled to be held on Monday morning but the time was changed after the army chief held consultations with the senior military commanders. An ISPR spokesman had earlier said that the meeting chaired by General Raheel will discuss matters relating to the internal security situation. Highly-placed sources told Dawn that the conference would also evolve its strategy to end the prevailing impasse. The situation in Islamabad took on critical proportions after the clashes began late on Saturday and led to at least three reported deaths and countless injuries. The meeting of the army commanders can have a serious bearing on the prevailing scenario, especially with the fact that the military had engaged in ‘mediating’ the crisis between the government and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI).Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) president Javed Hashmi on Sunday addressed a press conference and called on the PTI chief Imran Khan to leave Parliament House.Hashmi clarified the position on his differences with the party chief saying: “Imran Khan had assured the party of not moving ahead towards the Prime Minister House…until Shaikh Raheed brought a message with someone”.Imran then said that the situation required us to move forward, to which “I had differences”, Hashmi said.He also said that the party was against the decision of moving towards the PM House. Hashmi said he would rejoin his leader as soon as Imran would get the protesters out of Parliament House. Also read: Hashmi leaves sit-in to protest PTI’s joining forces with PAT. Hashmi was unhappy over his party’s decision to join hands with PAT because he feared it could lead to a violent situation.Hashmi is of the view that the army should not be dragged in politics no matter who had asked it to become a facilitator.
