Valentine's Day today: Pahela Falgun welcomed

‘Pahela Falgun’, the first day of spring in the Bengali month of Falgun, was observed on Friday, just a day ahead of the Valentines’ Day. The Valentines’ Day, widely known as ‘Love Day’ in Bangladesh, is observed on February 14 every year.  
Thousands of young girls and boys wore colourful traditional dresses and exchanged flowers to each other to celebrate the day. They also celebrated the day with reciting poems and songs and performing dances.
The girls in Bashonti (yellow or light orange) coloured sarees with flowers on their hair and adorning floral ornaments, and the
boys wearing colourful panjabees gathered at several places in the city, including Dhaka university campus and book fair at Bangla Academy premises, to welcome the advent of spring.
The festival-loving old-age Bangladeshi people also welcomed the first day of the spring and celebrated day in colourful manner.
Bakultola of the Faculty of Fine Arts (Charukala) of Dhaka University (DU) is the centre point of the Pahela Falgun festival. Daylong programmes was also organised there like previous year. Jatiya Boshonto Utshab Udjapan Parishad arranged programme of the day.
Thousands of people, particularly young girls and boys, gathered there from the morning and welcomed the day by singing songs, reciting poems and dancing.
The entire Dhaka University campus and the Ekeushy Boi Mela premises became the best places of celebrating the day.
