‘Pahela Baishakh’ celebrated in dists

“Pahela Baishak”, the first day of Bengali New Year was celebrated in Bagerhat District Town and its all the nine Upazilas with enthusiasm, fanfare and traditional festivities on Thursday. Due to corona pandemic after long 2 years the New Year’s celebration was held on large scale basis as well as with much traditional gaiety as the “Mongol Shovajatra (auspicious procession)” earned UNESCO recognition as world heritage in the last year 2017.
Earlier the District and Upazila Administrations and different socio-cultural and political organizations chalked out different elaborate progammes to celebrate the day in a befitting manner.
In Bagerhat District Town the day’s programme started with a Barsha Baran Shovajatra that started from Bagerhat Central Shahid Minar premises at 8-30 am and ended at Local Zila Parishad community centre premises after parading the main roads of the district town. It was led by Mohammad Azizur Rahma, DC, Bagerhat. The Mongal jatra was attended by all walks of people irrespective of ages and sexes carrying various banners, placards and festoons welcoming the Bangla New Year.
After the end of the Shova Jatra Momammad Azizur Rahman, DC, Bagerhat ceremonially inaugurated a week-long Baishakhi Mela in the local Zila Parishad auditorium premises as the chief guest in presence of large number of juvenile crowds. As many as 30 stalls sprung around the fair.
 Businessmen of hats and Bazars (market places), groceries, sales centers and important places in both rural and Urbana areas opened their traditional Hal Khatas (new account books) ceremonially and distributed sweets and seasonal fruits among the customers (Khariddars) hoping a good business in the new Bangala year.
 On the occasion Bagerhat Press Club arranged a get together programme in its Auditorium with Nihar Ranjan Saha, President of the club in the chair. It was attended by the members of the club and their family-members.
Staff Reporter from Kishoreganj says: Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bengali New Year was celebrated on Thursday with much enthusiasm and traditional functions in Kishoreganj .
People from different socio-cultural organisations joined a traditional rally “Mongol Shobhajatra” organized by District Administration in Kishoreganj. .
Led by Deputy Commissioner (DC) in Kishoreganj Mohammad Shamim Alam, Sr.Police Super( SP) Mashrukur Rahman Khaled Bpm (Bar), the cheerful rally with euphoric drum beat paraded the main street of Kalibari, Akhra Bazar at 10 am from the Old Stadium ground.
Zila , Parishad Chairman Advocate Zillur Rahman, DD and DS in local Government (LG) Habibur Rahman, ADM Farzana Khanam ruling Awami League (AL) district secretary Advocate M.A Afzol, Gurudhayal Govt. College principal Professor Jamilur Rahman, senior journalist Alam Sarowar Tito, District Press Club President Mostafa Kamal, TIB -Sansk President Saiful Haque Mollah Dulu among others, joined the rally.
Leading cultural organizations including Bangladesh Udichi Shilpi Gosthi, Kishoreganj Shilpakala Academy, Shishu Academy, Sammilito Sangskritik Jote, Khelaghore as well as different educational institutions and cultural figures in the district participated in the program.
Later a cultural program and prize giving ceremony was arranged at local Art Council where Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Shamim Alam, Sr.SP Mashrukur Rahman Khaled Bpm (Bar) spoke as chief guest with ADC ( Edu.& Ict) Golam Mostafa was in the chair.
A discussion meeting was held at Art Council Auditorium on Thursday morning. DC Mohammad Shamim Alam attended as chief guest while ADC(Education &Ict) Golam Mostafa presided over.
Sr.SP Mashrukur Rahman Khaled BPM (Bar) and Zila Parishad chairman Advocate Zillur Rahman were attended as special guests.
It was addressed among others, Civil surgeon( CS) Dr. Islam, District Awami League General Secretary advocate M. A Afzol, Mohila Awami League district president and former MP Dilara Began Asma, its general secretary Bilkis Begum, Sr. journalist Mostafa Kamal, Saiful Haque Mollah Dulu, and district Krishak League general secretary Anowar Hossain Bachu.
Madhukhali (Faridpur) Correspondent adds: A procession was brought out from the Upazila Parishad premises and returned to the Upazila Parishad premises by going around the important places including Madhukhali Rail gate on the Dhaka-Khulna Highway of the Upazila Sadar marking the Paheal Baishak on Thursday.
Upazila Chairman spoke at the discussion on the premises of the Upazila Parishad after the mass rally. Shahidul Islam, Upazila Executive Officer. Ashikur Rahman Chowdhury, Vice Chairman Muhammad Muraduzzaman Murad and General Secretary of the Awami League. Rezaul Haque Baku etc.
