Pahela Baishakh celebrated amid festivity in Port City

Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bengali New Year-1425 BS , was celebrated in the port city Chattogram and its adjacent districts on Saturday in a befitting manner with great enthusiasm, fanfare and festivity.
The district administration, Chattogram City Corporation and activists of different socio-cultural, professional and business organisations, NGOs, private bodies and educational institutions have arranged colourful programmes for welcoming the Bengali New Year.
Chattogram district administration and Chattogram City Corporation arranged separate colourful rallies from Chittagong circuit house premises and Sadhinata Park premises respectively.
Thousands of people of all ages, wearing traditional dresses and carrying festoons, placards, banners and singing “Esho Hey Boishakh Esho Esho” participated in the main ‘Baishakhi’ rally to welcome ‘Pahela Baishakh’.
City Mayor AZM Nasir Uddin led the rally of CCC at Swdhinata Park Maidan. Divisional Commissioner Abdul Mannan and Deputy Commissioner of Chattogram Mohammad Ilias Hossain led another colourful ‘Baishakhi’ rally which concluded at Shilpakola academy premises after parading some important thoroughfares.

District administration also organized a discussion on the occasion of Pahela Boishakh at Shilpakala academy at 9 am on Saturday..
The main programme of Pahela Boishakh began after sunrise at the historic DC hill and Shristala of CRB hill where artistes of Sammilita Pahela Baishakh Udjapan Parishad performed the songs including -“Esho hey Boishakh Esho Esho,”.Both programmes inaugurated by the CCC Mayor A J M Nasir Uddin.
Sammilita Pahela Baishakh Udjapan Parishad began its two-day program through a colourful procession. Kabadi, bullfight, cockfight and puppet show were the main attractions of the day.
Improved diets were served to the inmates of all hospitals, Chittagong Central Jail, orphanages, shishu paribars, vagabond centres and orphanages in the port city.
Hundreds socio-cultural organization including Chattogram Press Club, Chattogram University, Chittogram Univresity of engineering and technology , University of Science and Technology in Chattogram (USTC) and Government Fine Arts College, Borsho Biday O Borsho Sommilon Parishad, BWA School and College, Global Scholar School and College, Shahitya Parishad and Government City College celebrated the day through various programmes.
Baishaki programmes held at CUET: In observance of Pahela Baishakh welcoming the Bengali New Year 1425 BS and adhieu 2424 BS , Chattogram University of Engineering & Technology organised a two day long Baishaki Utsab program at university campus as arranged by Staff Welfare Deptt of the university .
 Vice Chancellor of CUET Prof. Dr. Rafiqul Alam inaugurated the inaugural session on early hour of Pahela Baishak at 7 am as Chief Guest who led the colourful procession of Pahela Baishak .
The main attraction of the programme is the presence of Channel-I satellite TV channel in the Baishaki Mancha of CUET.
The artists of Khude Ganraj of Channel -I rendered their best performances. Oher programs include Panta Utsab, Baul songs, Baishaki folk song, patriotic songs and attractive raffle draw.
 Registrar of CUET Prof Dr Farukuzzaman Chowdhury graced the occasion as special guest. Chairman of Staff Welfare Department Prof Dr.Sajal Chandra Banik presided over the inaugural session.
