Pagla Mosque gets Tk 1.5 m donations in 110 days

The eight charity boxes at the historic Pagla Mosque in Kishoreganj town received donations amounting to Tk 1 .05,18,000 cr in 110 days before they were reopened, marking for an average daily donation of Tk 136531.
The ancient mosque situated by the bank of Narshundha River in Harua of Kishoreganj town has been standing for over 252 years. It has recently made headlines due to generous donations by the devotees.
It received a donation of Tk 15018498 on February 15, 2020 , followed by a sum of Tk. 15084598 on 26 October last year.
Donations of gold jewellery and foreign currency were reopened on Saturday in the presence of Additional Deputy Commissioenr (General) Abdullah-al-Masud, Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Md. Golam Mostafa and Poura Mayor Mahamud Parvez after collecting days of donations.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Gen) Abdullah-al-Masud told The New Nation that the mosque received about Tk 15018498 along with gold jewellery and foreign currency.
ADC (Gen) Masud also said the money has been deposited to Rupali Bank Limited, Kishoregaj Corporate Branch while the gold jewellery has been kept in a safe alongside the previous donation of jewellery. The total money value of the jewellery has yet to be calculated, he said.
The Pagla Mosque is situated on 4.30 acres of land at the west end of Kishoreganj district. Legendary tales are associated with its foundation.
Many devotees aer drawn to the mosque from across the country, inspired by those tales and their personal beliefs. Their donations are deposited into those eight boxes.
Usually the boxes are opened every three months in the presence of administrative officers, Poura Mayor, CAB President, journalists and mosque executive committee members, who count and deposit the money into a bank.
Other offerings, such as poultry and domestic animals are auctioned once two days.
