Sheikh Arif Bulbon :
Padatik Nattya Sangsad (TSC) held a special invite-only
staging of their new play Gohonjatra on September 20
at Studio Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in the city’s Segunbagicha area. The play was premiered at BSA in July.
Written by Rubayet Ahmed, the hour-long monologue
was directed by Sudip Chakroborthy and enacted
sby Shamsi Ara Syka.
The play revolves around the dangers of intolerance,
violence, global political dynamics and the universal aspiration for peace and
freedom.
The play is a timely mirror on extremism that negates existing ideologies and indulges in destruction
and violence.
The play’s protagonist Salma has managed to flee captivity but returns to bury the dead and mourns her dead partner who has been brutally killed by extremists. She is unable
to escape the clutches of her oppressors. Through her death she stands up for the good
to reign supreme on earth.
Sanjib Kumar Dey has assisted in direction of the play. Sayeem Rana has planned music while Atiqul Islam Joy has designed light for the production.
