Overseas Employment and Expatriate Welfare Minister Engineer Khondoker Mosharraf Hossain said here Saturday evening that Bangladesh is a unique example of communal harmony where people of all religions live in peace and happiness.
The Minister was addressing a big gathering on Sreeangan premises in the town in observance of the 145th (Incarnation) birth day of Lord Jagadbandhu Sundar, the spiritual leader of Mahanambrata sect of Sanatan Hindu community.
The leader of this community during his life time had preached for peace and casteless society for the welfare of the mankind. Lord Jagadbandhu was born in 1871 and died in 1926.
Referring to the religious harmony now prevailing in the district as well as across the country, Mosharraf said that only Awami League can ensure peace and prosperity for all shades of people and religious faiths and to perform their respective religious rites without any hindrance.
A nine-day festival already started on the premises of Sreeangan where thousands of people both from home and abroad are attending the religious hymns and other religious activities, besides joining a fair.
Chaired by President of Sreeangan Mahanam Sangha Kanti Bandhu Brhamachari, the function was attended among others by, Deputy Commissioner Sardar Sharafat Ali, high civil and police officials.
The Minister said that there is no difference in the core theme of various religious beliefs having some differences in the customary practices because all religions preach services to humanity, peace and tolerance.
He also said that religion should not be used as a tool of exploitation and as it a personal belief it should not be allowed to create any impact in the state and social functions because it is a secular state.
The Minister announced that a residential building at an estimated cost of Taka 3 crore will be built soon within the Sreeangan complex to accommodate the visiting devotees coming from far flung areas during religious festival.
