Over 8,000 poor women of seven upazillas on Thursday received maternity allowances through the “MIS integrated G2P” payment system, which will gradually cover all beneficiaries across the country to ensure hassle-free allowance payment under the government’s social safety net programmes.
The seven upazillas are Sonargaon, Srinagar, Savar, Tungipara, Kaliganj and Bhoirab.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith inaugurated the Government to Person (G2P) payment system as the chief guest at a function at the Finance Ministry in the city.
State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroze Chumki and Women and Children Affairs Secretary Nasima Begum were present as special guests. Finance Secretary Mohammad Muslim Chowdhury presided over the function.
In the function, Muhith said Bangladesh is moving forward by taking advantages of technologies which make easy all kinds of transactions.
“Through the electronic system, people are receiving money within a short time and without hassles. This is absolutely a revolution,” he added.
Meher Afroze Chumki said the electronic payment system will create transparency in the process of giving allowances to the poor women.
The electronic payment system will play an important role to implement the Social Safety Net Programmes and in this way Bangladesh will achieve the sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), she added.
Nasima Begum said, under the G2P payment system, the poor people will get relief from hassles as they will get an SMS in their mobile phone after the payment of the allowance.
She urged the women to use the maternity allowance for their health development as the money is given only for the mother.
Muslim Chowdhury said the government will gradually pay all the allowances under the safety net programmes through the electronic payment system.
