Big-wigs still untouched: Over 70 killings in Khulna region in four decades

In the last four decades, more than 70 persons including journalists , political leaders and public representatives were killed.
Most of the killings were occurred due to political revenge. But the godfathers who instigated these killings are yet to be touched due to mysterious reason. This is nothing but failure of the members of law enforcers, experts think. Sources said, most of these killings were occurred by outlaw members, hired killers and different political parties’ cadres, but due to mysterious reason, the “godfathers (Big-wigs)” have not yet been arrested by the members of law enforcers.
At least 15 journalists were killed in the last two eras. Journalist Harunur Rashid Khokon, crime reporter of a local Bangla daily Purbanchal published from Khulna was killed on March2, 2002, Journalist Humayun Kabir Balu, editor of a local Bangla daily Janmobhumi, former President of Khulna Press Club and also an eminent journalist of south-western region, was killed brutally at his residence for bomb attack by the miscreants on June 14, 2006, Journalist Manik Saha, former Khulna Correspondent of Bangla daily Sangbad and BBC Radio was killed at Khulna Press Club Premises on January 25, 2006. Besides, some other journalists of Khulna named Belal Ahmed, Nahar Ali , Shukur Ali and others were also killed by the miscreants.
Adv Monjurul Imam, a prominent lawyer of Khulna Bar Association and also a former Awami League leader and his assistant lawyer Bijon Bihari Mondol were killed brutally on August 25, 2003. CPB leader Comrade Ratan Sen was killed on July 31, 1992 in front of Khulna DC office and also the office of the then Police Superintendent (SP). Awami Jubo League leader Shahid Iqbal Bithar was killed on July 11, 2009.Jatyo Party leader Sardar Saleh Ahmed was killed on November 11, 1998. At least half a dozen of Public Representatives were also killed in the last four decades in Khulna. On February 25, 1995, a JCD leader of Daulatpur Govt. B.L. College named Abul Kalam Azad Chowdhury ( The Then general secretary of JCD, B.L.College unit) was killed at B.L. College gate.
A Jatyotabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leader of Khulna B.L. College unit named Shiblu Molla, Nephew of 4No. Ward Councilor of was hacked to death by some unidentified miscreants at Deana Purba Para Hospital Intersection area under Daulatpur police station in the city on June 20, 2017.
The deceased was identified as Abdullah Al Foysal Shiplu Molla, 27, son of Babu Molla, resident of Deana Purba Para under Daulatpur police station in Khulna city.
Police and eyewitnesses said, at around 10.30pm on Tuesday, Shiplu Molla was gossiping with his friends at Deana Purba Para hospital intersection. All on a sudden, some unidentified miscreants reached the spot, hacked Shiplu with sharp weapons indiscriminately and managed to flee from the scene. Thereafter local people rescued Shiplu and brought him to Khulna Medical College Hospital where doctor on duty declared him dead.
An alleged regional leader of an out law party Purbo Banglar Communist Party was gunned down by some unidentified miscreants in front of Darodi Electronics at Daulatpur Anjuman road under Daulatpur police station in Khulna city at around 8.15 pm on June3, 2017. The deceased was identified as Sheikh Iqbal Sarwar, 46, son of late Sheikh Monsur Ali, resident of Daulat Khan road under Daulatpur police station in the city.
Police and local people said, Iqbal Sarwar was secretely involved in the out-law party, he was the regional leader of Purbo Banglar Communist Party and he was a close associate of the then ferocious terrorist-extortionist Khokon alias Tiger Khokon of Daulatpur. It is mentionable in this connection that the wife of Iqbal Sarwar, complainant of Iqbal murder case also died recently due to hypertension, Physician sources said.
On May 25,2017, Organizing secretary of Khulna ditrict unit BNP Sadar Alauddin Mithu and his body guard were gunned down in Phultala upazila area in the district, on May 31,2017.
Centering supremacy, a youth was hacked to death by some unidentified miscreants at a tea stall at Zoragate intersection area under Khulna Kotwali police station in the city at around 12.30 pm on July 11, 2017.
The deceased was identified as Sayeedur Rahman Howladar,25, son of Selim Howladar, resident of 7 no. ghat area in Khalishpur police station in the city under Khulna Metropolitan police (KMP).
 Police and eyewitnesses said, Sayeed was sitting at a tea stall at Zoragate area under Khulna Kotwali police station. All on a sudden, some unidentified miscreants reached the tea stall, hacked Sayeed with sharp weapons indiscriminately and managed to flee from the scene. Local people rescued him and brought him to Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) where doctor on duty declared him dead. It is mentionable that crime situation of Khulna city and nine upazila areas of the district recently worsens alarmingly .Panic is prevailing among the Khulna inhabitants for the repeated killings.
On May 25,2017, organizing secretary of Khulna district unit BNP and former UP Chairman Sardar Alauddin Mithu and one of his bodyguard were gunned down by some unidentified miscreants at his own business office at Damodor area in Phultala upazila of Khulna district. After five days of this double murder, on May 31, an unidentified bullet-hit dead body was found and recovered by the police at Bypass Akman More area under Arongghata police station in Khulna city. Next day, on June 1, one Sheikh Mostak Ali was killed centering a family feud at Boyra cross road area under Sonadanga police station in the city. On the same day, police recovered a beheaded dead body wrapped in a sack from a brick field ghat of the river Atharobeki at Sreefaltala area in Rupsha upazila of the district. Next day, on June 2. an alleged outlaw named Iqbal Sarwar was shot dead at Daulatpur Anjuman road area under Daulatpur police station in the city.
